In my rhetorical analysis essay, I explored how Donald Trump used emotional appeals like fear, anger, and nostalgia to connect with his audience during his presidential campaign. Writing this piece helped me better understand rhetorical strategies such as repetition, framing, and the use of simple language to persuade an audience. I learned to focus more on analyzing how a message is delivered rather than just what is being said. This assignment improved my ability to identify and evaluate rhetorical choices, which also helped me think more critically when reading or listening to speeches. One challenge I faced was staying objective while writing about a controversial figure, but revising my tone helped me stay focused on analysis. Overall, this essay taught me how to take a stance in my writing while supporting it with clear evidence and structure, and it pushed me to think more deeply about the power of language in politics.
