Self assesment
Creating a children’s book about CRISPR was a unique and challenging experience that helped me grow as a writer. I had to take a complex scientific topic—gene editing—and explain it in a way that young readers could understand and enjoy. This taught me how important it is to consider your audience when writing. I used simple language, colorful examples, and friendly characters to help make the idea of CRISPR feel less intimidating and more engaging. One of the hardest parts was keeping the science accurate while making it age-appropriate and fun. I also learned how visuals and storytelling work together in children’s books to teach important messages. This project helped me think creatively about how writing can be used to inform and inspire, not just explain facts. Overall, the assignment helped me practice adapting my tone and style to fit a different genre and audience, which made me a better communicator.
